Day Four – Leaving Spokane

September 30th, 2006

Up at dawn for another day. This early-morning stuff’s gotta go. On the upside, we beat most of the rush-hour traffic in and out of Spokane and had enough time to do a wee bit of shopping. First stop, Wal-Mart!!! I found this picture pretty funny. Just lookit the guy run! “If you see a fire, GET THE FUCK OUT!”

Mark made a couple purchases for his sister (who recently married by the way). He’s oh so proud.

I actually saw a SONIC Drive-through fast-food restraunt. No, we didn’t go as we wanted to get to Kelowna ASAP, but at least I saw it!!!

While on the road, we also drove by quite a few little theme-parks, mini-golf courses and go-kart tracks. I can’t beleive how many there are in the USA, what gives?! Saskatoon has two mini-golf courses and 2 go-kart tracks. Spokane ALONE has 17 mini-golf’s & 14 go-kart tracks. HOLY COW!

This bill-board scared me. Plain & simple.

I only wish that Saskatchewan had foot-hills like this scatered around. What do we have? Tundra and ‘Wild Grassland’. Woop de doo.

While driving up to Kelowna, we noticed there was quite a bit of smoke in the air. So much so infact that this is what the sun looked like at noon.

Day Four – Leaving Spokane

After our drink at the black jazz club, and a few more drinks and sushi later, the three of us decided it would probably be a good idea if we just take a walk downtown and let some of the alcohol in our systems subside. Needless to say, it would NOT have been a good idea for any of us to make the 20km drive back out to the camp-site. Here’s a neat little shot of a water-fountain/water-park placed beside the river that runs through the center of Spokane.

Here’s the (no so clean) river. I’m sad to say that I don’t know the name of it, but it’s quite a nice view with the clock-tower and the amusement park poking out of the tree-tops!

Yea, Mark had a little too much to drink. He opted to take a snooze while the two of us kicked around the park.

Funny… this sign was painted onto a walking-path. Odd.

The Poz, in all his glory. Lookout! A giant metal spider is coming to get me!

And the clock-tower. I’m sure there’s some sort of story behind it, but I have no idea what it might be.

Another day comes to a close.

This would be a great place for an airsoft game. Or a zombie movie.

When I buy a house, this is going to be on the floor outside of the entrance! COOL!

Day Four – Leaving Spokane

September 30th, 2006

After being on the road for about an hour, I remembered that my buddy Hugh worked in a town called ‘Superior’ not incredibly far away from Missoula. Sadly he was away that day, BUT I do I have a picture of his work!

We finally arrived in Spokane and made a quick trip to the local sporting goods store to see what kind of goodies there were. One thing I saw was an airsoft gun in a blister pack for (get this….) $120 USD. Good god…

After realizing that we should probably find ourself a place to sleep for the night, we opted to stop and stay at the Spokane KOA campground (seeing a trend?). Here’s their mascott ‘Boots’

After pitching tent, the three of us decided to go to a bar. Unbeknownst to us, it was a ‘Black’ jazz bar. We walked in and we were the only non-black people in the bar. To make matters worse, everyone was starring at us until we went into the vacant section of the bar & sat down. One drink later, we were outta there!

Thankfully, right across the street was a sushi restaraunt. Mark hates seafood so Keiko and I enjoyed a platter while Mark was content with a (sigh) hamburger. Frig.

Day Four – Leaving Spokane

Waking up the next morning was a little more difficult as we had the ability to sleep in, however it was short-lived because (as has happened at the same campsite), we had annoying and LOUD americans. Sometimes yank’s can be quite annoying when they want to be… if it’s not telling their dog to shut up, it’s screaming at their A.D.D. ridden kids to quit throwing stones at the tents around their own campsite.

The good news, however, is that we had a nice breakfast at my favorite doughnut shop… no, not Tim Hortons, but something even better. KRISPY KREME! There’s absolutly nothing better in the entire world than a fresh, warm, ooey-gooey Krispy Kreme doughnut. And to make sure I had my fill, I had more than one!

Mmm… strawberry-filled glaze

Venetian Creme in the background and Almost-Roast up front

Needless to say, I was happy to be there! Why’s it look like I have fangs..?

After a nice leisurly breakfast, we decided to walk around downtown where we saw some neat murals. There are about 24 of them, but I decided I’d only show this one, enjoy it!

This is by far the coolest bus I’ve ever seen, ANYWHERE.

That’s one hell of a battering-ram on the front end. I got to go for a ride in one of these when I was in North Carolina (ride-along). The officer I was with pulled over a man for DUI and I got to sit in the car waiting. Even with those damn lights ontop of the car, one could have a heck of an eppileptic seizure by the reflections alone!

OK, another cool-looking bus that’s trying to make one hell of a left turn! DRIFFFT!!!

How could a person pass through Montana without checking out some of their gun-crazy “Sporting Stores” (ie: Gun stores that happen to have a fishing rod or two in the back). This is a fully-automatic .22 pistol with a silencer attachment. I asked the guy what it’s made of and he said “oh, just cheap plastic”… great.

Day Four – Leaving Spokane

While driving through Glacier National Park, on our way up to Logan Pass, we saw quite a few beautiful water-falls that fell both onto the car as well as into ditches. The water came from the melting glaciers which pour down the rock-face from spring until late fall.

After a few hours of driving in a warm car with the hot sun beating down on you, one tends to get a little smelly. There’s only one remedy for being smelly… TAKE A SHOWER!

Here’s a nice shot of the water coming down from the mountain. Just above this image was a big pool of water in the size of a small lake which eventually over-flows every spring-time.

Honest, I didn’t wet myself! Well… can you really wet yourself from the toes up?

THIS is why my knees were wet. I decided it would be a good idea to try and cross over this small river… forgetting that the water looks more shallow than it really is when viewing it from an angle.

The three of us decided to take a break and go go-karting!!! Mushroom Bouton was back in action!!! I’ll post a video a little later on!

Nothing spells ‘mmmm’ like a good hearty dinner of chicken, corn and corn-bread! YUM! Mark.. stop writing on the table.

And another day draws to a close.
